Oct. 22, 1996; Interview #5)
(I feel like I'm REALLY being patronized now…)

WB: What was your favorite Halloween costume of all time?

TRM: My favorite Halloween costume was being a dog or some sort of an animal.

WB: What is your advice to cartoonists who are just starting out in the field? And why did you choose this field as your career? Will you ever do any of your 'toons in color?

TRM: My advice is draw, draw, draw! And, read cartoon instruction books. Market your cartoons in the small press network. I chose cartooning because all you need is a pen & paper. With painting — it's costly & you need more Art supplies.

WB: Speaking of cartooning — what is the address of "Cartoonerama?" I'd like to take a look at their catalog and send it on to Chad Milk.

TRM: (He gasps, turns deathly pale and is silent for a moment) You'll have to check the Writer's Digest magazine for the current address of "Cartoonerama." They could have moved.

WB: What is the most horrible thing that has ever happened to you?

TRM: The most horrible thing that ever happened to me was falling in a pile of mud on the way to a wedding, dressed up in tie & jacket!

WB: If you had a time machine and could go forward or backwards in time and visit anyone you wanted, where would you go and who would you visit?

TRM: If, I had a time machine, I'd like to see an early cartoonist's creations on a cave!

WB: If Luhey was a human and could speak to us, what would be the first thing he'd say to us? And what kind of a person would he be?

TRM: If, Luhey could be a human (person), his first words would be, "give me two burgers & some fries."
Luhey would be a very passive person!

WB: Have you ever considered doing cartoons with different people or animals featured in them?

TRM: I'm not too sure I'd do any cartoons on too many people because I'm mainly into Luhey dog 'toons with seasonal themes.

WB: How many cartoons do you estimate you've created so far? Have you ever done any besides Luhey/seasonal 'toons? How come you don't include people (humans) in them?

TRM: I've probably drawn several thousand cartoons....most have been Luhey cartoons! I've done cartoons that have Luhey with a senior citizen (WB: I stand corrected; I do remember seeing this one) for "Happy Grandparents" Day!

WB: And speaking of grandparents, you mentioned in "TR's 'Zine" that your grandfather is called "Um-Pa-Pa." How did he get that name?

TRM: My grandfather was nicknamed -UM-PA-PA. Why or how....I really don't know!

WB: What do you think is the best possible thing that could happen with your Luhey cartoons?

TRM: The best that could result from my Luhey cartoons would is (sic) to become successful & popular like the world famous cartoonists!

*And so our chatauqua-rama ended. As fate would have it, this was to be our final interview. See "TR Miller's Angry Final Days" for the exciting conclusion. — WB
