Who IS TR Miller, Cartoonist? Good question. Unfortunately, this is a question that can barely be answered.   TR garnered a reputation as a very eccentric cartoonist. He was most active around the middle 90's, sending his Luhey cartoons to almost any 'zine mentioned in FactSheet Five. He'd usually send off one or two of his Luhey 'zines — which were filled with his one panel 'toons — and give his permission to use any toons desired. Kind of a "shotgun" approach to cartooning.   So now you're asking, "who is Luhey?" Well, this is a little easier to answer. Luhey (pronounced "Louey") is one of Miller's two dogs. For whatever reason, TR has chosen Luhey — the Lhasa apso — as his cartoon raison d'etre (poor Willy, the Maltese, has been ignored completely).   Luhey, above all other things, loves to celebrate holidays, as well as life's simple pleasures. One would be hard-pressed to say that Miller's 'toons are funny (at least, not intentionally). His cartoons are more like droll fortune cookie fortunes that are given to diners of a psychiatric halfway house cafeteria. After causing a minor stir among 'zine readers, Miller seems to have burned-out around 1996 and went into self-imposed retirement of sorts.   Here are a few known facts about TR Miller, Cartoonist:
  • He is a male who lives/lived in New Jersey — around Milltown/New Brunswick area.
  • TR and his family were abandoned by his biological father when Miller was an infant.
  • He lived with his mom and stepdad Don (and was presumably adopted by Don).
  • He is very much homebound and has not traveled outside of NJ.
  • He took a cartoon (mail) correspondence class and did not "graduate."
  • As of 1996, he was a sexual virgin (and probably still is).
  • He is extremely unwilling to speak of his past.
  • He always referred to himself as "TR Miller, Cartoonist."
  • His mom and Don divorced and she is/was with husband #3 (who was never mentioned by name).
  • He is very much an admirer of the paintings of "Grandma Moses."
  • He is decidedly old-fashioned and nostalgic; kind of a backwards-looking, sock hop kind of guy who never attended a sock hop.
Here are some of my assumptions about Mr. Miller:
  • He is a bit chubby (if not outright obese).
  • He hangs out at the local public library and has his own "special" table where he sits everyday, without fail.
  • He is still living at home.
  • His grandfather, "Um-Pa-Pa," is now dead.
And he is probably a big fan of Thomas Kinkade (The Painter of Lite). Amen.
